Welcome to HUDORA: Quality for the Whole Family for over 100 Years!
HUDORA is more than just a brand – we are a company that has been producing high-quality sports and leisure products for over a century. Since our founding in 1919, we have proudly remained a family-run business.

1900s
Our story begins with Hugo Dornseif. He came from one of the typical small farms in the "Bergisches Land", trained as a locksmith, and initially became the operations manager at a factory that produced ice skates and building hardware. His passion was for ice skates, so he founded an ice skate factory and named it HUDORA. This name is a combination of his initials and the name of his hometown: HUgoDOrnseifRAdevormwald.

1920s
Hugo Dornseif was highly innovative and received over 40 patents related to various aspects of ice skate manufacturing. One of his notable achievements was the development of a one-piece ice skate, successfully solving the problem of the blade and sole plate detaching. Since ice skating was only possible in winter, the production of roller skates soon began-for the days without ice.

1950s
These roller skates initially had iron wheels but were equipped with ball bearings early on. In the 1950s, the iron wheels were replaced by rubber wheels, and later by plastic wheels, which allowed for silent riding. By the late 1950s, sliding shoes emerged, which were easier to use than ice skates and could even be used on snow.

1960s
At the beginning of the 1960s, the "Schlittschuhkomplet" (complete ice skate) began to gain popularity. This was a special ice skate boot that was firmly attached to the metal blade, initially screwed on and later riveted. To source the boots, HUDORA established contacts with Eastern Bloc countries, as the production of boots in Germany had already become too expensive. The blades were produced in Radevormwald until 1982, making the complete ice skate affordable for many.

In the 1980s, roller skates also evolved into a "Komplet," meaning a skate that was firmly attached to a boot. This was known as the "Rollerboot," and it sparked an impressive roller boom. This was followed by the introduction of skateboards and then inline skates. Unlike traditional roller skates, the wheels on inline skates were arranged in a single line. Initially, they featured hard-shell boots that resembled ski boots. However, HUDORA quickly adopted more foot-friendly boots made from textile and plastic materials.

2000s
The products were already being manufactured internationally, but development and design remained at the German location. When the scooter trend emerged in the early 2000s, HUDORA introduced the BigWheel to the market. Its folding mechanism was developed in collaboration with Professor Horst-Walter Grollius, an expert in engineering design at the University of Wuppertal. The scooter market faced a significant downturn due to accidents involving folding mechanisms. However, HUDORA’s scooter passed the test and was the only one allowed to remain on the market.

Quality and safety have been important to us for over 100 years. Since the turn of the millennium, HUDORA has operated a fully owned subsidiary in China with its own staff, overseeing manufacturing and delivery in collaboration with official institutions like TÜV. This has allowed us to expand our product range to include trampolines, basketball hoops, swings, and soccer goals. We are committed to producing good, attractive, reliable, and safe products for the whole family. That's why we seek advice and inspiration from both technology and science, as well as practical knowledge directly from parents, children, the young, and the old - everyone who enjoys being active together. A prime example of this is our new balance bikes. Welcome to HUDORA, where quality and fun for the whole family always come first!
